Author's Note:
Wordcraft is a work of nonfiction. All sources and subjects are real people. In writing a book about the people who make up words and stories, it is a consistent challenge to separate true stories from those in which some party is "drinking the Kool-Aid," either telling or believing stories that others will buy into. Diligent pre-readers Wordcraft were asked to note when they thought the author was casting aside his better judgment in the face of Kool-Aid. It should be noted that Kool-Aid is a synthetic fruit juice manufactured by Kraft Foods, of which 563 million gallons are consumed each year, and there are, at this printing, 22 flavors. Kool-Aid is also the shorthand for a way of thinking, a point to be made in Wordcraft.
